Based in the Hakomi Method, my form of somatic work weaves talk therapy with a deep dive into the body — and how and where our emotions live there.

As trauma specialist Bessel Van der Kolk states in the title of his well-known book, “the body keeps the score.” When we explore our experiences and emotions through the lens of the body instead of approaching them from the mind, we unlock the capacity to meet our inner parts, honor them, and transform our relationship to them. Often, these are young parts that developed in our childhood to help us navigate a reality in which we had little control; and while they served to protect us then, they may not be so helpful in our adult lives now. By gently getting to know them through the body-mind, we can help them to feel safe to soften their grip.

This is deeply healing work that accesses and gradually reshapes our earliest-formed core beliefs and neural pathways. It allows us to change our lives from the inside out. This can lead to embodied inner peace, self-love, and a deepened capacity for intimacy with self, others, and one’s soul path.
